Biography

1906-1907 art school in Weimar, pupil of Henry van de Velde. 1908-1909 Sächsische Kunstakademie, Dresden. 1909 Königlich Bayerische Kunstakademie, Munich, briefly a pupil of Franz von Stuck. 1912 completes his study at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart; meets Adolf Hölzel. 1920 guest of the 'üecht-Gruppe'. 1921 'Teaching Workshop for New Art' in his own atelier. 1924 first solo exhibition at the Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart. 1926 stays for several weeks in Paris. Becomes acquainted with the architect Alfred Loos. 1928 meets Wassily Kandinsky. 1930 the seminar 'Absolute Painting' at Stuttgart's adult education centre. 1933 moves to Hornstaad on Lake Constance. 1953 study trip to Provence.
