Biography

Born in Rehau, Bavaria, in 1945. Studied painting at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Nuremberg, under Gerhard Wendland from 1966 to 1968. Studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Joseph Beuys from 1968 to 1972. 1969 co-founder of the group 'YIUP'. 1979 founding of the 'Gruppe Normal' (with Jan Knap and Milan Kunc). 1986 guest professor at the art academy in Reykjavik. 1996 to 2002 professor at the Städel School, Frankfurt am Main. 2002 to 2010 professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Nuremberg. Lives and works in Thurndorf and Nuremberg.
