Biography

1896-1903 studies at the Art Academy, Stuttgart, under L. Herterich, then in Munich. 1903-1905 again in Stuttgart under R. von Haug. 1905 trips to Italy (Rome Prize), Paris, and Switzerland. 1907 moves to Munich. 1910 founding member of the artists' association 'Sema'. 1911 visits Italy. 1913 co-founder of Munich's 'New Secession'. 1922-1937 and 1946-1951 professorship at the Munich Academy. 1950 founding member of the 'New Group' in Munich and member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund (Association of German Artists) in Berlin.
