Biography

Vasari relates that Giulio Clovia, actually Julije Klović (born in Grižane, Croatia, around 1498; died in Rome in 1578), arrived in Italy as an eighteen-year-old, and on the advice of Giulio Romano trained as a miniature painter. Worked in the service of several cardinals (Grimani, Campeggi, Alessandro Farnese). After experiencing the Sack of Rome in 1527, took vows as a monk; an important painter of miniatures.
