Biography

1941-1942 applied arts school, Breslau. 1942-1945 military service. 1947 moves to Zeitz in Saxony. Works in printing companies. 1948-1951 studies at Leipzig's applied arts and graphic design schools, the Kunstgewerbeschule and the Akademie für Graphische Gestaltung. 1956-1968 appointed to the Hochschule für Graphik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, the academy of visual arts, where he served as rector from 1961 to 1964. 1966 exhibitions in Leipzig, Erfurt, and Würzburg. 1968-1969 travels in Bulgaria. 1972 becomes a member of the East German Academy of Arts. Travels to Hungary. 1973-1974 exhibitions in Leipzig and Berlin. Travels to Italy and France. 1976-1987 once again rector and teacher (until 1988) at Leipzig's visual arts academy. 1977 'documenta 6', Kassel. 1978 trips to France. 1980 exhibitions in Bremen and Frankfurt am Main. 1983-1984 trips to Holland, Belgium, and Great Britain. 1989 retrospectives in Berlin and Munich. 1992 moves to Strodehme in Germany's Havelland district.
