After brief study of sinology in Frankfurt am Main, Horst P. Horst (1906-1999) moved to Paris, where in 1932 he began working as a fashion and celebrity photographer for the journal 'Vogue'. Using illusionistic design techniques, he presented fashion in compositions reminiscent of the imagery of the Surrealists and Dadaists.
