Biography

Jacopo Ligozzi (born in Verona ca. 1547; died in Florence in 1627), presumably trained in the workshop of his father, Giovanni Armano. In the service of Grand Duke Francesco I in Florence since 1577, primarily as a miniature painter for scientific works, he was after 1587 mainly active as a painter. Independent after 1593, he also produced designs for applied arts; his drawings are fastidious and sumptuously executed.
