Biography

Francesco de'Rossi, called Salviati (born in Florence ca. 1509/10; died in Rome in 1563): studied under Andea del Sarto and others; in 1531 he moved to Rome with Cardinal Giovanni Salviati (hence his added name); in 1539/40 he worked in northern Italy (Venice); in 1541 in the service of Pierluigi Farnese, from 1543 to 1548 in Florence (Sala dell'Udienza), afterwards in Rome and briefly in France (1556/57). His paintings and imaginative frescoes are distinguished by their rich palette.
