Biography

Born around 1580, probably in Haarlem, where he is documented beginning in 1597. In his youth, he was a sailor, and later trained as a marine painter under Hendrick Vroom. Active in Haarlem all his life. Member of the newly founded Guild of St Luke there from 1631. Died in 1633.
