Biography

Presumably born shortly before 1500, Anton Woensam arrived in Cologne as a boy with his apparently highly regarded father Jaspar Woensam the Elder by 1510 at the latest. He was extremely productive, primarily as a designer of woodcuts for Cologne's book publishers; his graphic work is comprised of far more than 500 works, among them important city views. As a panel painter he was especially involved in the decoration of the Carthusian monastery.
