Biography

Franceso Primaticcio (born in Bologna in 1504; died in Paris in 1570) worked with Giulio Romano in Mantua beginning in 1525 or 1526. In 1532, at the invitation of François I, he moved to Fontainebleau, where as 'art director' he was entrusted with the building and decoration of the palace as well as other tasks (printmaking; tapestry design; festival decor) and realised them all with great artistic skill. His style was disseminated throughout Europe by way of prints.
